VISION
For the Love of Dance Foundation envisions a world that affords every child equal access and opportunity to quality dance arts education regardless of gender, age, race or culture, socio-economic status or ability.
THE ART OF DANCE
The art of dance uses movement to communicate meaning about the human experience. It is far more than exercise or entertainment. It is a powerful medium to express one's values, thoughts, and aspirations about the lives we live and the world in which we live.
EDUCATION IN THE ART OF DANCE
Education in the art of dance develops the knowledge and skills required to create, perform, and understand movement as a means of artistic communication. A comprehensive education includes improvisation, technique, choreography, performance, observation and analysis. Exposure to dance history and cultures, kinesiology and anatomy, and movement theories further enriches the dance educational experience.
IMPORTANNCE OF EDUCATION IN THE ART OF DANCE
Education in the art of dance engages the artistic processes of creating, performing and critical analysis. These processes require students to read symbol systems, use critical thinking skills, excel in nonverbal reasoning and communication, exchange ideas, work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, and interact within a multicultural society. More comprehensively, education in the art of dance develops kinesthetic and spatial learning as well as intra- and interpersonal knowledge of self and others.
Arts research shows that students who study dance are more
FOR THE LOVE OF DANCE FOUNDATION is a not-for-profit* organization formed to promote and enhance the art of dance to at-risk and underprivileged youths between the ages of 4 and 18.
Within the safety of our dance studio, we will match the student to a professional dance instructor in the dance genre of the studen't choice: whether Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Ballroom, Latin, Swing, Country or Hip Hop. We will offer a dynamic and constantly evolving program by providing various dance opportunities while building a lifelong skill.
The majority of our students will be found through networking with various government agencies and other non profit organizations, which provide shelter or services to at-risk youths.
Students will come from diverse social and economic backgrounds; many of whom are homeless, gang members or socially dysfunctional, many with histories of physical or emotional abuse or neglect. Our program will encourage confidence, goal setting, self-discipline, creativity, team work, social skills and of course, trust: giving the students the necessary tools to meet the challenges encountering throughout their lives.
The board members, among other things, share two core principles: A passion for dance, and a passion for our youth and their potential. We have all observed, within ourselves, what the love of dance has provided us in our own lives, as individuals and members of our communities, and we strive to share these experiences with these kids!
